Ken Tizzard a Good Dog is Lost

Ken Tizzard is coming to play The Loft in Cobourg on Saturday, August 25. He'll bring with him, a great band, enough experience of large rock venues to fill a lifetime, and songs from his next record - A GOOD DOG IS LOST - a collection of Ron Hynes songs. Tizzard's newest album, on Booth Street records, a label he co-owns with his friend Ray Kies, is a tribute to a great man of song who died in 2015 from the excesses of a hard life on the road. The record comes out in early November. This is a preview of that record. Although Ken Tizzard had known Ron Hynes socially for many years, they became incredibly close when Hynes asked Ken to back him on a tour of Newfoundland and ultimately the rest of Canada - just the two of them - in a car traveling great distances between shows - with little to talk about except the songs and the stories.

Ken played a show commemorating Ron Hynes at Westben just outside of Campbellford a while back. This is what he wrote of that experience:

"Choosing the material was tough, but I have settled in on the songs and now commit my time to learning words, melodies, turns of phrase and strangely “Ron” styled guitar playing. This is allowing me to grow once again as a writer and guitar player. My hope is to get the material as close to the way that Ron would perform and then forget it all and perform these songs as I would, while still embodying the essence of my good friend. Once again I am blessed to be still learning from a great master even though he is no longer here."

Ken Tizzard is a singer, a songwriter, a family man, a community builder, a curator. He is making his life a work of art.
