Canadian bassist Jillian McKenna began her jazz studies at Mohawk College in Hamilton under influential Canadian jazz musicians including Pat Collins and Juno-winning pianist, Adrean Farrugia. Jillian quickly moved to performing professionally in and around Toronto and Hamilton and in 2015 she moved to New York City on a scholarship to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in Manhattan. In NYC she honed her jazz chops with a number of esteemed artists including Peter Washington, Reggie Workman, David Wong, Ben Williams, Matt Wilson, and Joel Frahm. Jillian has seasoned her very special voice at some cool international festivals - the Carthage Music Festival in Tunisia and the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland and at home recently played the Toronto and Niagara Jazz Festivals. Now, as a leader, Jillian is taking The Jillian McKenna Project on tour. McKenna's original compositions combine modern grooves with catchy melodies in a moving harmony taking you to unexpected places - sometimes unique vocalizations complement her unique bass playing. Illustrious award-winning pianist, Adrean Farrugia, teams with up-and-coming and drummer Mackenzie Read to bring strong, independent voices and unique perspectives to the music and to this inter-generational trio. This will be the first time at The LOFT for each of these players further reinforcing the intimate Cobourg listening room as a highly credible jazz venue. Advance tickets are $25. + sc - $30. at the door.
