Warm Winds from Cuba
Jane Bunnett & Maqueque have invited several Cuban friends to join in concert in Toronto on March 01, 2025: the dean of Cuban flute, Orlando “Maraca” Valle; four musicians she recorded with over 20 years ago, the Santiago Sax Quartet; and Toronto-based Cubam-Canadian piano master, Hilario Durán.
On Sunday, March 09 the entire cast will move to the Concert Hall at Victoria Hall, Cobourg for a reprise concert.
Bunnett has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, received The Order of Canada, The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and, most recently, The Premier’s Award for Excellence. With Maqueque, she has created something new and phenomenal in the world of jazz. What started out 10 years ago as a project to record and mentor brilliant young Cuban female musicians, has become one of the top groups on the North American jazz scene, winning a Juno Award for their first album, Jane Bunnett and Maqueque, a Grammy nomination for their second release, Oddara, and, most recently an appearance on DownBeat’s critics’ poll as one of the top ten jazz groups in the world.
Tickets are $50 plus hst and service fee and available at the Experience Cobourg Box Office: 855-372-2210
