David Watt Besley is one of the preeminent performers of St Augustine, Florida where he has played his signature 'roots Americana' for the past fifty years. David is one of those artistic souls who has made his living from singing and songwriting for his entire life. But each summer he makes the trip to Eastern Ontario where he tours with his friend and winter band-mate, fiddler Laurence Stevenson of Brighton, The Friends of Fiddler's Green, Mad Man's Window, Friends of Shelter Valley Folk Festival and Radio 89.7 FM. David and Laurence will be on stage at The Loft on Friday, July 28 at 7:30. Opening for David and Laurence will be the wonderful singer/songwriter Shawna Caspi, another of those musical souls who has chosen the artist's life. Shawna played and conducted workshops at Shelter Valley Folk Festival 2016 as a featured artist. She traveled to St. Augustine last winter and joined David Watt Besley and Laurence Stevenson in song. These past few months she has crossed Canada playing on Via trains as part of their artist-on-train programs and toured much of middle America performing solo at festivals and and house concerts. Like David and Shawna, Laurence Stevenson has lived for the music for almost five decades, four of them playing with the spectacular Friends of Fiddlers Green. Unlike them, however, Laurence spent a big chunk of his life "working for the man" as a producer at CBC Radio. Since retirement he has been a fixture in the music scene of Northumberland and St. Augustine, Fla where he winters with wife Barbara. This is a benefit concert for Greenwood Coalitiion. Tickets $20 from Victoria Hall Box Office (905-372-2210) or from kenprue@gmail.com (The Loft).
