Christmas Tidings – Ensemble Vivant Sunday, November 26, 2017 – 3:00 pm Port Hope United Church Performing some of the world’s most beloved seasonal music, Ensemble Vivant, an internationally acclaimed group, together with a local choir will present a special family concert. Come and experience beautiful music that will warm your heart and soul in celebration of love, caring and sharing with family and friends at the most wonderful time of the year. Rejoice in the heavenly sounds of piano and strings and the spirited joyful voices of young choral singers. It will surely lift your spirits and warm your hearts and souls. You will delight in fresh, original renditions of traditional Christmas carols and other seasonal gems, including selections from Ensemble Vivant’s timeless recording Christmas Tidings. Mare usque ad Mare (From Sea to Sea) Sunday, March 18, 2018 – 3:00 pm Port Hope United Church The Saguenay Quartet (recently renamed from Alcan) from Quebec and the Lafayette String Quartet from British Columbia combine more than a half century of chamber music making. Their joint program was created especially for the Celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary and includes: •Mendelssohn’s octet in E-flat major op. 20 •Niels Gade, String octet opus 17 •Kelly-Marie Murphy (Canadian) Blues and the principles of excitation •A brand new commissioned piece from the Canadian composer: Airat Ichmouratov The Saguenay Quartet – violinists Laura Andriani and Nathalie Camus, violist Luc Beauchemin, and cellist David Ellis – has developed a reputation for excellence throughout Canada and internationally. Celebrating 25 years, the quartet’s originality, contagious enthusiasm, unique sonority, and remarkable cohesion have all contributed to its long term success. The Lafayette String Quartet – violinists Ann Elliott-Goldschmidt and Sharon Stanis, violist Joanna Hood and cellist Pamela Highbaugh Aloni. Since 1986, the Lafayette String Quartet has divided their time between entertaining audiences all over North America and Europe and teaching some of Canada’s finest young string players. Their residency at the University of Victoria is rich in local performances and community involvement. Their concerts in Canada and abroad are hailed as “Passionate, riveting, and with flawless ensemble.”
