Who better than Rob Mikel, Cobourg's premier historian, to speak of the Golden Age of American Summer Homes? Rob's presentation will be illustrated with photos, past and present of the grand hotels and mansions of American visitors as grand as Ulysses S. Grant and his family. Many of these houses still stand today in original and altered forms. You will get a peak into these houses, said to be some of the finest homes in Ontario. Learn why Jackie Kennedy wrote to one of the property owners in the 1960's to request an item to be returned to the White House. It still resides in Cobourg.

Rob has been writing the history of the homes and people of Cobourg for over 40 years for which he has received multiple awards including the Lieutenant Governor's Community Heritage Award. He has studied History and Architecture and is a speech writer for the Ontario Government.
